New Millennium Quilt Guild

The New Millennium Quilt Guild in Walkerton started to make quilts for the local Chapter of Project Linus in Kitchener last winter and in May we were able to give a representative from the Kitchener Chapter 75 quilts of various sizes, many of them made with the patterns that Project Linus have for us to use. That's pretty good for a guild of only about 40 members!

Etobicoke Quilters Guild

The Etobicoke Quilters Guild is a very active, community-oriented guild of approximately 150 members. New members are always welcome - no experience required. Monthly meetings are held on the third Monday of each month from September to June at the Neilson Park Creative Centre, 56 Neilson Drive, Toronto (Etobicoke), Ontario. Doors open at 7:00 pm for members to make use of our extensive library, socialize, and participate in block-of-the-month. Meetings start at 7:30 pm, end as close to 9:30 pm as possible and consist of a very short business section, show & share, and a programme usually involving a speaker or activity.

Two days a week, members have use of Studio C - a large, bright, air-conditioned, spacious work studio with a fully stocked supply cupboard. A hand-quilting frame always has a quilt up for anyone to work on. Some members work on the Comfort Quilt program while others work on their own projects. Members are very helpful to each other in all areas of quilting.

Members of our guild are to be commended for their on-going involvement in The Quilt: A Breast Cancer Support Project, providing quilts for the auction and also by volunteering during the exhibit at Casa Loma in Toronto.

Beginning in September, we hope to be able to get around to as many quilt guilds in our area as possible with our raffle quilt to help promote our Show in March 2008 and also let everyone have an opportunity to possibly own any one of the 4 quilted prizes. Please see the Show News section of this Web site for more information about our show.

Please visit our website at www.etobicokequiltersguild.com for lots of information about our monthly meetings, upcoming speakers, quilt show, guild activities, workshops, photos, and the Spring and Fall retreats at Crieff Hills.

Kirkland Lake Mile of Gold Quilter's Guild

Awards its Certificate of Appreciation to Terry Whyte
Terry Whyte Guild Award photo.

Helen Berlingeri, current President of the Kirkland Lake guild tells us that Terry has been the backbone of their organization. She started the guild 10 years ago and has been involved with it in one capacity or another for all that time. She has been President for 4 years and Program Director for the others. She is a very gentle person who leads and guides with fairness and calmness. When she's involved, things get done. She is also an excellent teacher who keeps herself very up to date on the latest trends in quilting and then offers classes to teach others what she has learned. Terry truly is the kind of person that no one can fault and her contributions to the guild were recognized with this award.

Hamilton Quilters Guild

The Hamilton Quilters Guild now has its feet back on the ground after a very successful quilt show in June 2005. The tea room (now famous for egg salad sandwiches), members booth and vendors were all kept busy with many visitors from near and far. The venue was an excellent location for visitors coming in from all areas. We will now be working on our June 2008 quilt show, to be held at the same venue and this will be our guild's 25th Anniversary quilt show.

September 2005 started us off with a new executive and a show and tell of "How I Spent My Summer Holidays" challenge. Our workshops taught by guild members and invited teachers have also been successful with classes for miniature quilts, quilted handbags and textures and embellishments.

Our October meeting was a "sit back, talk, laugh and remember" slide show presented by Leigh Forrest, President of the 2005 Quilt Show Committee, which included setup (which took a long time), reviewing all of our magnificent quilts (oohs and aahs) and the take down (which took 2 minutes). It was a fun evening going down memory lane.

The guild has a CD of our June 2005 quilt show available for sale - it can also be viewed on our guild web site at www.hamiltonquiltersguild.com.

Our November meeting welcomed Carol McLean who showed us her "scrap quilts" and gave us many ideas. Our December meeting was a potluck dinner for the members with show and tell.

Upcoming guild meetings will welcome the following presenters in 2006:
January - Jacqui VanMepelen-Scheppink on antique sewing machines,
February - Rena Mahler with a trunk show,
April - Heather Stewart on color and a trunk show and
May - Linda Franz on quilted diamonds.

We now have welcomed 180 members to our guild. Happy quilting!

Stitches From The Heart Quilt Guild

The Stitches From The Heart Quilt Guild has been in operation here in Sault Ste. Marie for over 12 years. We currently have a membership of approximately 165. We encourage growth in our membership by hosting workshops to assist our members to improve their skills and to promote the art of quilt making.

We meet on the last Monday of the month at the Seniors' Drop In Centre, located on Bay Street. During this meeting, we discuss the business issues first, then we move on to some fun stuff. We have snacks and socialize during break time, and then we enjoy "Show and Share". This is a time when we proudly display projects that we have been working on, and inspire each other to try something new.

We also have contributed to the community at large in various ways. This has been done by providing a quilt for raffling for various local charities. As well, one of our committees includes "special projects" which we fondly refer to as Comfort Quilts. This committee have provided quilts to be donated to families in need, disabled children, or for cancer patients in our local hospital.

We have hosted quilt education opportunities for children, through a program at Christmas time, called "Kids Can Quilt", and we are currently working on a presentation for the high schools as well as elementary schools, in hopes of enhancing their arts curriculum, and promoting the art of quilting.

We are currently working on a website, and will send the address when we have something up and running.
