Ann Fales

Ann Fales Rosette photo.

The OQC Rosette was presented to Ann Fales. Ann’s piece, called "Dawning: Dream Circles #2" was voted Best Wall Hanging in Show.

Ann was influenced by the work of Reynola Pakusich. It started her on the road to more abstract designs in her work. Circles and stars are presently in many of her recent pieces. The use of colour design and the principles of colour theory are used effectively to achieve a more three dimensional effect in both her wall hangings and quilts.

This abstract wall hanging was entered into the original and innovative wall hanging category. It was the second of a series of abstracts using circles entitled "Dream Circle Quilts". This wall hanging entitled "Dawning" represents the edge between night and day - shadow and light in the universe. The "Organic" hand and machine quilting is central in the overall design. The artist explained that the fabric and the design dictated the quilting pattern used on the wall hanging. This quilt was machine pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted.
